What is Anxiety?

Anxiety, at its most basic, is a feeling of unease, often linked to worry about an issue, or event, in the future – ‘What could happen? What could go wrong?’ But also, the past – ‘How did I handle that situation? Am I being judged?’

In fact, anxiety is an incredibly common feeling that we are all likely to experience at some stage.

However, it can become a disorder. Temporary worries that are usually manageable can grow and become severe. This too is widespread, with current figures showing that more than 12% of people in the UK live with anxiety.

Sadly, many of these people are not receiving, or even seeking, treatment. This is largely due to a general attitude that goes something like ‘Oh, I am just a bit stressed, probably overworked, it will pass, I need to get on with it’.

However, we know that Anxiety is not a petty or foolish feeling. It can be very serious and debilitating and, if untreated, can be a tunnel to other conditions such as Depression.

Talkmind's clinicians and therapists can support individuals with anxiety as, in many cases, it can be manageable and treatable.
