Assessments and Processes

Psychiatric Assessments

We offer a comprehensive psychiatric assessment of your history so we can gain an understanding of your social support systems and learn about any current difficulties you are facing, in order to understand your situation.

We will discuss your background history, including your family environment when growing up, childhood, employment and relationship experiences, gaining an understanding of your social support systems, medical and medication history as well as any current difficulties.

If appropriate, a diagnosis will be presented to you, which can be a positive way to contextualise and address your challenges and the underlying causes of your mental health concerns that you’ve lived with to date. This ultimately shapes and guides the treatment recommendations we develop with you so that you can have a more fulfilling and meaningful life ahead.

Our professionals will listen to your concerns in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment.

ADHD Assessment

ADHD is a complex condition and should not be considered as a standalone diagnosis. It is identified through further psychiatric examination

  • Many individuals with ADHD may also experience other psychiatric conditions
  • A full psychiatric assessment is required as symptoms of other conditions can mimic symptoms of ADHD
  • Only through a full and thorough assessment can clarification on diagnostic formulation be reached
  • If an appointment for a standard psychiatric assessment is made but the clinician and you both agree a dedicated ADHD assessment would be beneficial, an additional fee may be charged

We may recommend that physical health investigations
are needed to enhance your overall well-being.

Psychological therapy

Our Talkmind therapists understand that therapy sessions are a collaborative process and are undertaken in a safe environment. Your sessions will be crucial for you and your therapist to continue developing a fuller understanding of your issues and provide new tools for helping you cope with your situation as well as tools for making new changes so you have a positive approach to your life ahead.

Therapy is a collaborative process. You are the expert on your experience and your therapist will bring their technical knowledge, compassion and understanding to your sessions and together you will go on a reformative journey together.

Together, we can create a tailor-made

Information at a glance

What happens in a psychiatric appointment?

Your appointment is split into 3 parts: assessment, diagnosis, treatment.

Assessment: Your Consultant Psychiatrist will gather a full view of your background by asking questions about your family environment, where you grew up, your childhood, your employment, your relationship experiences. They will ask you about your medical and medication history and your general support systems; it is an opportunity for you to discuss all your difficulties.

Diagnosis: If relevant, you may be diagnosed with a condition.

Treatment: From understanding your history, your Psychiatrist will develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to you by addressing your specific needs. You will be presented with guidance for the tools and resources you will need in order to achieve a better mental health and overall better well-being.

Following your assessment, you will receive a short report, which provides a brief overview of the assessment findings and recommendations for treatment. Do contact us if you would like a more detailed report, which would follow the format of a full psychiatric report; please note, this will incur an additional fee.

How many psychiatric appointments will I need?

Typically, following the initial assessment, a diagnosis and treatment plan can be established. If a treatment plan includes follow ups, further shorter appointments will be needed. Any time a new medication is prescribed, the dose is adjusted and/or a repeat prescription is required, a medication review is required. We recommend you book this well in advance so your treatment remains therapeutic and not interrupted, which could happen if you want until your medication course is completed. Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure you book a follow up appointment.

How many therapist sessions will I need?

Typically, this is between 16-24 sessions. Your therapist will discuss this with you during your initial appointment.

What happens once a booking is made?

Upon booking, you will receive a confirmation email (please check your spam inbox if you don't see this!), which will include the following:

  • Receipt of your booking
  • Confirmation of the time and date your appointment is
  • Video link that your assessment will take place
  • A link to a patient onboarding form that needs to be filled in prior to your assessment
  • Tips to ensure your appointment runs smoothly
